You'll start by roughing out your ice sculpture, refining shapes and forms, and adding final intricate details. By the end of the session, your masterpiece will be yours to take home and watch as it slowly melts away—leaving behind unforgettable memories and a new set of skills for your next ice sculpture adventure.
No prior experience is necessary! While previous art or design experience can be beneficial, private instruction will be customized to your needs and skill level.
- Winter wear: You will need to be wearing cold weather winter wear including hats/toques, good gloves - preferably with a pocket for a hand warmer, warm boots (CSA certified ideal but not a requirement), and perhaps a scarf or neck warmer. It is important to dress in layers as we will be in and out of the freezer during your lesson and will be donning and doffing several times.
- Food/Hydration: Pack a light lunch and some snacks and be sure to bring a water bottle. You don't realize how much fluid you lose from your body when working in the cold.
- A great attitude: Ice carving is cold, hard work but with a great attitude and a lust for learning and creating you won't even notice the cold. This one attribute is what make the difference between those that fall in love with ice sculpture and those that are happy to have just tried something new and may never carve again.
- Physical Requirements: Ice carving requires physical strength and stamina, as you’ll be working with heavy materials and equipment for extended periods of time in both cold and warm environments.
- Tool Safety: Ice carving involves the use of sharp tools and power equipment, so safety is paramount. This program emphasizes safe carving practices first and foremost.
Unleash your inner artist and learn the timeless craft of ice sculpting. With personalized, expert instruction, you’ll walk away with a beautiful sculpture and a whole new skill set.
